Thanks to the generosity of the Newport Festivals Foundation in partnership with local Keen Footwear and Portland Music Company, our students at Reynolds Middle School received new acoustic instruments donated to our community partner Latino Network.
Newport Festivals Foundation is the nonprofit arm of the annual east coast Newport Folk Festival. As part of their community outreach, they donate music instruments to schools and after-school programs to increase access to music education for youth. This year, because of their collaboration with the Portland-based company, Keen Footwear, they decided to make their charitable contributions to programs within the Portland area. The instruments were purchased through local Portland Music Company and personally delivered to students in our weekly after-school class with Studio Latino at Reynolds Middle School.
We are grateful these instruments will be available for current and future Roots and Beats students and help to expand the ongoing art and culture programming through Studio Latino programs of Latino Network.
